How to find a Siamese Cat Rescue Center

If you’re considering adopting a Siamese cat, you’re in luck. There are more Siamese rescue centers than you can imagine. But where is the right resource to help you find the right cat? Use these tips to help guide your search.

  1. If you have a specific area in mind, starting with a search engine will help narrow your search. You can use keywords to find listings of animal shelters or rescue organizations.
  1. There are many online discussion boards on Siamese Cat Rescue.
  1. Another great resource is the ASPCA’s ‘Foster Finder’. The website lists the options.
  1. You can also look for centers that are accredited by organizations. These include the American Cat Association and the Cat Fanciers Association. This will assure you that the center is equipped and knows how to care for Siamese cats.

Caring for a Rescued Siamese Cat

Why is caring for a rescued Siamese cat so difficult? Here are some reasons why:

  1. Owning a pet is very different when you know nothing about the animal you are getting.
  1. A rescued Siamese cat can have behavioral problems. These range from fear, aggression, and anxiety. The challenge is greater if someone abandons the cat and it was not cared for before you get hold of him.

Cats that have been through a traumatic experience may be hesitant to trust people again. So, you must ensure that you provide them with as much love and care as possible when they arrive at your door.

When I saw the Siamese cat up for adoption at the rescue center, it was love at first sight. But as soon as I took him home, I realized I was in for a challenge. This cat had been abandoned and was very mistrustful of people. He was malnourished and flea-ridden. He hissed and spat at me whenever I tried to pet him.

It was definitely a lot of work at first. He wouldn’t let me get close to him. He would hide under furniture or behind curtains whenever anyone came over.

I did my best to win him over, spending hours playing with him and giving him lots of love. After a few weeks of patience and TLC, he finally started to warm up to me. And once he did, I realized how special he was. He followed me everywhere I went, always wanting to be close by. He would curl up on my lap to nap while I watched TV or worked on my computer.

It was definitely worth all the effort to adopt this amazing cat!

But, not all rescued cats have a history of abandonment or abuse. Sometimes, their owner needed to part ways with them because of personal difficulties. These might include grief and moving abroad.

Here are some things that you should keep in mind when caring for a rescued Siamese cat:

  1. Provide plenty of soft, comfortable beds and mats.
  1. Feed them small amounts several times throughout the day. Make sure their food is fresh.
  1. Furnish the room where the cat will be staying with plenty of toys and other items that the cat will like. This will help the cat to have a smooth transition into its new home.
  1. Give them love and attention, and spend time playing with them daily.
  1. Let them know that they’re always safe, no matter what happens.
  1. Help them acclimate to their new home by letting them explore at their own pace.
  1. Avoid scaring them by making sudden movements or yelling. Avoid placing objects they might consider dangerous in their vicinity.
  1. If your cat shows any signs of stress, such as hiding or being aggressive, take them to the veterinarian.
  1. Be patient. Saved Siamese cats may take some time to get used to their new surroundings and new people.

If you adopt a cat or rescue a kitten before the age of eight weeks, she might engage in wool-sucking behavior.

When I adopted my kitten, I knew that she might suck on my clothes. I knew it was a sign of comfort for her and that she was trying to get used to being in a new home. So I wasn’t bothered when she started sucking on my sweater whenever she got a chance.

In fact, I actually found it pretty cute. It made me feel like she was comfortable around me and felt safe and secure in her new home.

But sooner or later, her sucking behavior started to bother me a bit. She would always do it, even when she wasn’t tired or sleepy.

So I talked to my vet about it, and they told me there’s nothing wrong with wool-sucking behavior. They said it’s a way for kittens to comfort themselves and get used to their new environment.

Growing up, my kitten grew out of her need to suckle on my clothes. Now she’s content with licking herself! Her wool-sucking days are behind her. Yet, I’ll never forget those times when she was a tiny kitten and needed extra love and security.

There are a few things you should never do when caring for a rescued Siamese cat:

  1. Don’t let them outside unsupervised.
  1. Don’t give them food that’s been left out, as they may not be used to being fed from a bowl.
  1. Don’t give them food that’s been cooked in a dish with strong smells, as they may be afraid of these smells.
  1. Don’t force them to eat, as they may not be hungry.
  1. Don’t try to catch them if they escape, as this may make them afraid of you.
  1. Don’t play with them if they’re angry or scared. This might make the situation worse.
  1. Don’t punish them if they make mistakes. This will only make them feel scared and confused.

Reasons to Consider Adopting a Siamese Cat

If you’re in the market for a new house companion, consider the benefits of adopting a Siamese cat. They are fluffy, intelligent, and easy to maneuver. But, it’s essential to know why you’re adopting this particular feline in the first place. You’re making a significant commitment, after all.

The following are some of the many reasons to make a Siamese cat the centerpiece of your household.

  1. Intelligence. A Siamese cat has one of the most common IQs in the cat world, proving that these cats can be quite the problem solvers. This cat excels at learning new tricks and memorizing its surroundings.
  1. Longevity. Siamese cats have lifespans of over 15 years, which may be longer than almost any other cat breed.
  1. Loving nature. Siamese cats are lovable cats. They usually get along with children. Siamese cats may not be the best choice for homes with small children scared of pets. But most kids will have fun playing together with a friendly Siamese!
  1. Affectionate. Siamese are affectionate and love human companionship.
  1. Loyal. Siamese cats are loyal and love to spend their days with those they love.
  1. Tolerance. Siamese cats are tolerant of other pets. This is true, especially if they’re raised from a young age around other animals. They get along with other cats and have been known to live with dogs.
  1. Playfulness. Siamese cats are some of the most playful cats out there. Their personality may not be as cuddly as the Persian cats. But, they are still jolly and affectionate. They especially love running and chasing their favorite toys.
  1. Easy maintenance. Unlike some kinds of cats, Siamese cats don’t shed a lot. This makes them perfect for apartments and homes with small living spaces.
  1. A good talker. Siamese cats are very talkative and love to sit up on your lap. Their conversation goes beyond their typical meow.
